Early morning with Daryo Boi. Everyone calls him Momo, he is the shepherd hired by the khan (the community’s chief), here in his work outfit shortly after the herd left the coral (sheep pen). Love the details in the fabric.

Background

During a 2008 winter expedition in the Pamir mountains of Afghanistan, a 4-week round trip, mostly on foot. That winter, three foreigners, including myself, met in the Afghan Pamir — that region had not been visited by foreigners since the Michauds (French photographers) visited in winter 1972.
