During a 2008 winter expedition in the Pamir mountains of Afghanistan, a 4-week round trip, mostly on foot. That winter, three foreigners, including myself, met in the Afghan Pamir — that region had not been visited by foreigners since the Michauds (French photographers) visited in winter 1972.
