Ikhbal (15 years old) has been crying off and on for two days. Recently married, she is both sad to leave her family nest and anxious about her future at her husband’s camp.
During my fourth expedition to Afghanistan’s Pamir mountains, on assignment photographing the isolated nomadic Kyrgyz community, for a National Geographic magazine feature story titled “Stranded on the Roof of the World” (February 2013). Shot in winter 2012.
